Édouard Louis Shares 10 Reasons to Admire Anne Carson

Édouard Louis expresses his passionate appreciation for Anne Carson, whom he regards as one of contemporary literature’s finest voices. His journey with her began on a Peter Pan bus, where a snowstorm trapped him and other passengers for ten hours. During this time, inspired by the allure of Carson’s text, he began translating her work, Antigonick, into French without realizing the passing time.

Louis highlights Carson’s unique approach to writing, where, rather than adhering to traditional literary conventions, she blends diverse elements, such as myth and modernity, and allows unexpected narrators to emerge in her poems. From her powerful reinterpretations of classics to her poignant explorations of personal loss and political themes, Louis reflects on the innovative nature of her work and its profound impact on readers.
