NEW YORK — The holiday season is taking shape in New York City as the renowned Rink at Rockefeller Center officially opened its doors for the season on Saturday, October 10. This year marks an impressive 90 years of ice skating, cherished holiday traditions, and memorable moments in the city.
The first skaters glided onto the rink at 9 a.m., heralding the start of a beloved winter activity. Beyond the skating, Rockefeller Center is enhancing its festive atmosphere with a vibrant art installation curated by celebrated artist Kenny Scharf, titled “Scary and the Dancers!” This colorful display includes a massive 34-foot inflatable sculpture, attracting visitors with Scharf’s distinct cartoon-like designs. Additionally, a free children’s art workshop named Art Sundae will be held every Saturday throughout October, catering to young creatives. The installation will be on view until November 1. Meanwhile, preparations for the iconic Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree are underway, set to arrive on November 7. For those eager to skate, tickets are available starting at $22 per person, offering a perfect chance to embrace the holiday spirit.
