Plaza Hotel closure leaves bride scrambling for new wedding venue

In Midtown Manhattan, a bride-to-be, Christine Carney, is faced with a scramble to find a new venue after discovering that the famed Plaza Hotel plans to shut down for significant renovations. The hotel, located at Central Park South and Fifth Avenue, has been a dream wedding location for Carney since childhood, with her wedding scheduled for May 1.

The sudden news of the hotel’s four-year closure starting in January left her in disbelief. Carney expressed frustration over the hotel’s ongoing wedding bookings despite the impending closure. Wedding planner Alyssa Pettinato highlighted the difficulties ahead, explaining the need to secure a new venue and possibly alter the wedding date, alongside the logistics of managing existing vendor commitments. Despite these challenges, Carney remains hopeful for a beautiful wedding.
