Hurricane Isaias struck the Gulf Coast of the U.S.

Hurricane Isaias struck the Gulf Coast of the U.S. on Friday as a powerful Category 2 storm, impacting areas in Alabama and the Florida Panhandle with severe winds, intense rain, flooding, and hazardous storm surges. The hurricane reached land near Destin, Florida, with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph, before weakening slightly as it came ashore.
In Escambia County, reports arose of a casualty linked to a fallen tree, with officials confirming two fatalities caused by Isaias. Governor Ron DeSantis stated the first victim was found underneath a tree that collapsed onto their home and the second was discovered in a garage where a generator was running, driving home the importance of safety precautions regarding generator use indoors. The storm’s impact also led to widespread power outages and mandatory evacuations in several areas, with over 668,000 customers losing power across Florida, Alabama, and Georgia.
